Misc | Kawaii Box Review

Hello lovelies! Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend so far  (☆^ー^☆)

A few weeks ago I contacted the lovely folks over at Kawaii Box and asked if I could review a box for them; to my surprise and joy, they said yes! Kawaii Box is a monthly subscription service, where you receive a box of adorable Japanese and Korean stationary and other cute items each month  (。♥‿♥。) Think I frightened my mailman half to death when he delivered it, I was so excited ahaha.

So, here's my box review! Be warned: super photo heavy post!

1 - Kawaii Neko Plush (Cute Cat Plush)

2 - Tin Dinosaur Pencil Case

3 - Macaron Ink Pen

4 - Cloud Memory Letter Set

5 - Korean Deco Tape

6 - Polka Dots Shoe Laces

7 - Popsicle Squishy Charm

8 - Mini Animal Spray Bottle

9 - Alpaca Tin Case

10 - Puffy Paradise Stickers

11 - Naru Naru Gumi Nomi DIY Candy Kit

Sooooooo many photos ahahaha! Ugh, everything's so cute it's unbelievable!

Since receiving this Kawaii Box I've already started using a few items, such as the Macaron Ink Pen. It's cute and colourful, and as I'm constantly trundling off to interviews or meetings with recruitment agencies, I need a pen attached to my Week by Week Diary at all times to note all of these appointments down.

I'm also using the Popsicle Squishy Charm, and the Puffy Paradise Stickers. My boyfriend broke the little keyring I was using to keep my housekeys together, so I've started using this really big H&M Tiger Face keyring so that my keys are easy to find in my rather large and cluttered messenger bag. The Popsicle Squishy Charm has now joined the Tiger Face, and now my keys are unmissable in my bag ahaha 'cause this charm is so fat! It even smells kind of sweet ahaha, but the downside is now I keep finding lots of little sprinkles in my bag that have fallen off ahahaha. Meanwhile, some of the Puffy Paradise Stickers have made their way onto the back of my phone, and so far I'm impressed with their staying power! They really cheer my phone up ♪(゚▽^*)ノ⌒☆

There are a few things I'm planning on using as well, such as the Kawaii Neko Plush which will probably join Tiger Face and Popsicle on my housekeys. Also the Tin Dinosaur Pencil Case as soon as I can be bothered transferring all my stationary from my old pencil case, the Cloud Memory Letter Set as both my father's and boyfriend's birthdays are in the next three weeks and I'm making home made cards 'cause I'm so unemployed and poor ahaha. The Mini Animal Spray Bottle too, as I want to transfer some of my perfume into it (currently using New Look's Pure Blush; actually smells so nice!! Quite sweet with a subtle floral undertone, not overpowering in the slightest) so I can have some in my bag, but I can't unscrew the top of the bottle ahahahaha (T▽T) Can't wait to use it when I finally manage to unscrew it though ahahaha!

All in all, I'm sooooo pleased with this Kawaii Box, I didn't think I'd get this much use out of all the items! I'm so happy and thankful that they sent one to me, and I'm 100% going to sign up for a subscription as soon as I get a job 'cause all the items are super cute and useful!

Stay tuned as Kawaii Box are also providing me with another box for a giveaway on my blog!  o((*^▽^*))o

Have you had a Kawaii Box before? Are you a fan of how adorable everything Japan and Korea makes is?

Fashion | Rienda (リエンダ) Early Autumn 2015 Collection Co-Ordinates (Japanese Fashion)

Happy pre-hump day!  ⊂((・▽・))⊃

Or, y'know, happy Tuesday or whatever ahaha.

Welp, sure has been a while since I did any fashion-related posts, let alone Japanese fashion! The last time I think was 2013 for multiple brands, including Reinda. But, I saw that people were coming to my blog looking for the 2015 Autumn/Winter collections, and I'm more than happy to oblige!

So, here's I think an almost preview of Rienda's upcoming Autumn/Winter 2015 collection, with a showcase of co-ordinates (sort of a Japanese term for outfits)! And some of them are so cute!! ♡o。.(✿ฺ。 ✿ฺ)

I do personally quite adore Rienda, as while some Japanese fashion is known for being quite over the top (think Lolita fashion - all extreme frills, all the time), Rienda boasts a very classic, simple style, which I find these co-ordinates showcase quite well.

These are what I would call wardrobe staples. Like, when Gok Wan was all about a capsule wardrobe? I'm reminded of that when I see this; plain colours on items of clothing that can be mixed and matched, with bold pops of classic colour perfect for Autumn, such as a burgundy-red and mustard-yellow, easily complementing the whites, dark greys, blacks, and blues. LOVE. IT. If the shipping charge wasn't ridiculous getting clothing from Japan to England, I'd probably buy about 60-80% of these co-ordinates ahaha (ignoring accessories - I'm a Plain Jane when it comes to them, I have one necklace that I wear every day, and hats just do not suit me paha).

One thing I'm not a fan of though when it comes to Japanese fashion, are the peplum style items they won't quit throwing out there, both skirts and tops. I'm just not a fan. The peplum skirts don't bother me, but the t-shirts and tops always look too short and with peplum on top of that, they just wouldn't suit my figure. I like over-sized tops, shirts, and jumpers paired with more form-fitting skirts, shorts, leggings, etc. as I'm not too confident in my stomach and hips area, so that's just my personal preference (o≧▽゚)oニパッ

I'll have to have a look at some other Japanese fashion brands to see if there are any distinctive trends for Autumn/Winter, but so far I'm really liking what Rienda are previewing!

Do you like Rienda's early Autumn/Winter 2015 collection? Are there any other Japanese fashion brands you're liking at the moment, or would like to see a post on? Let me know in the comments below!

Japanese | Hiragana (ひらがな) and Katakana (カタカナ) Resources (日本語)

こんにちはみなさん!お元気ですか?

私はマンチェスター大学の一年生です。私のせんこうは日本語です。だから、私は日本語でブログのポストを書こうと思っています。

Yeesh, I really need to practice my Japanese! I'm actually really struggling with my course, I'm barely passing if not failing! I'm a bad studenttt~~~ Oo。。( ̄¬ ̄*)ぽあぁん

So, I thought I'd try something a little different! Japanese is pretty much my life right now, so it only makes sense to incorporate it into my blog, at least every now and again ٩( 'ω' )و

Disclaimer: I'm just sharing what worked or is working for me, I'm obviously not claiming to have all the answers. These are all just resources I've personally used and found very helpful or useful d(^^*)

When I first started out learning Japanese in my own time, I was alright with it, because everything's easy when you're doing beginner levels, and also because I found a lot of resources. I've been thinking about it for a while, and I've decided to start incorporating Japanese into my blog. I need to practice, as I'm still stuck in the awful habit of thinking up a sentence in English and then trying to translate it into Japanese, which does not work. It's taken me quite a few months to realise this but you have to try to think it up in Japanese, not translate from English. They're structured far too differently.

To start off with then, I thought I'd obviously start with the basics! There are three forms of script in Japanese: the two syllabary scripts Hiragana and Katakana, and then Kanji, which are Chinese characters with syllabary readings that represent concepts, ideas, etc. In order to get anywhere with Japanese, you need to learn Hiragana and Katakana first.

I really liked this series. It includes some basic vocabulary, and I found it great to practice with, as it has you practice writing them over and over again, and trust me, you really need that when you're first starting out! If you're planning on actually attempting to learn Japanese, it's incredibly important that you memorise these scripts. I'll discuss avoiding Romaji (Japanese words spelt out in English) probably in my next post, but moving forwards from learning Hiragana and Katakana, you only want to use books or websites that do NOT use Romaji. You'll only want sources writing Japanese in Japanese, so learn these scripts now.

There are a few apps you can use too if you're on the move. I like a lot of courses on the app Memrise, I'm pretty sure it's available on iPhones as well as on Android. This app has a lot of Japanese courses which again I'll probably discuss in my next Japanese post, and pretty much all of them start you off with learning Hiragana and Katakana first. Again, avoid any that use romaji (or are "anime Japanese"), and you'll be fine  (⌒▽⌒)☆ You can also simply search the words "Hiragana" or "Katakana" in your app store, and there'll be hundreds of apps offering to help teach you them, so you'll never be short in supply. They're great to help you remember them, but I honestly can't recommend the books above enough. You need to be writing in Japanese, because being able to choose the right character on an app is a world apart from being able to write the character yourself from memory.

Don't worry if you find it difficult, it is. When I tried my hand at learning Hangul, the Korean script, I was really put off because I kept hearing that even an idiot could memorise it in a few days, and I was finding it really hard. Everyone has their own pace, and learning a new language is hard enough, let alone one that doesn't share your alphabet! Just give it a go, there's nothing more rewarding than learning a new language sometimes (o≧▽゚)oニパッ

If you decide to try learning Japanese, then I wish you all the best of luck! If you're already learning, whether self-taught or otherwise, I'd love to hear what you found/are finding useful in your Japanese journey (o^∀^) Just let me know in the comments below!
